MinRes puts its Mind to the Matter
Mineral Resources (MinRes) held its latest Mind Matters series at its Osborne Park head office in Western Australia.
MinRes’ Mind Matters series aims to give its team members the chance to learn about key mental health topics from a range of experts.
The session focused on information and advice on how to enhance performance through sleep, with experts Dr Ian Dunican and West Coast Eagles strength and conditioning coach Paul Turk discussing the benefits of optimising sleep routines.
The key takeaways included:
- getting quality sleep over quantity (while explaining that getting enough sleep of ideally seven hours is still important)
- prioritising calming pre-sleep activities
- tracking sleep data through sleep wearables like smart watches
- distinguishing between behaviour-related sleep issues and clinical disorders
- avoiding exposure to mobile phones before sleep
- allowing a suitable window between eating and sleeping
- nap strategy importance
- prioritising recovery time after shift work
- allowing for additional sleep on weekends to offset sleep debt.
“As we continue to prioritise mental and physical wellbeing, incorporating these insights into our daily routines can lead to improved sleep quality, enhanced performance and overall vitality,” MinRes said.
