The Felicitas bauxite project is to be developed 60 kilometres north east of Perth. The extensive Felicitas bauxite reserve is, in the main, locatedwithin the Shire of Toodyay, however parts of the resource extend into theadjoining shires of Mundaring and Northam, all within the Darling Rangein Western Australia.
The Felicitas Bauxite Project is Being Developed by Bauxite Resources and Yankuang Corporation
The Felicitas bauxite project is being developed as a joint venture between Bauxite Resources Limited and Chinese state owned mining company,Yankuang Corporation. The joint venture is known as, Bauxite AluminaJoint Ventures (BAJV). Bauxite Resources Limited was founded in May2007 and it became publicly listed in 2007.Felicitas Resource Contains 220 Million Tonnes of Bauxite
The Felicitas bauxite project is located 1.5 kilometres from an existingrailway infrastructure that gives it a direct rail link to the Freemantle and Kwinana port,120 kilometres it its south west. The bauxite resourceextends 20 kilometres to the south of the project area, crossing both theToodyay and Morangup roads until it finishes about five kilometres northwest of Wundowie. The deposit contains a resource of 220 million tonnesthat will give the project a life of mine of around 25 years at currentlyplanned production levels. The Felicitas Bauxite Project's Next Step is a Feasibility Study
Feasibility studies are being undertaken at the Felicitas bauxite project that is examining the options around operating as a Direct Shipment Ore(DSO), or processing the ore on site, type of undertaking. If the prefeasibility studies prove to be positive the Felicitas Bauxite Project's next step is to obtain Environmental Protection Authority Approval before a mining lease can be issued that will allow mining to occur.Felicitas Bauxite Mine to Create Many Jobs and Opportunities
The Felicitas bauxite mining operation is to create full time jobs for 120workers, most of which are expected to come from the local population.Indirect opportunities will also be created for local suppliers and training partnerships.Felicitas Bauxite Project to be an Open Cut Mine
The Felicitas bauxite project will entail readying the site for an open pit operation that will make use of surface continuous miners, rather thanblasting. The removal of bauxite will be made with the use of conventionaltruck and shovel methods. The mine pits will be quite shallow, averagingonly five metres. In order to produce a consistent grade of bauxite, themine will most likely be worked with a few pits operating at the one timeto allow blending. It is currently planned for the ore to be stockpiled within the site area for blending to take place before the bauxite is loaded onto railway trucks that will take it to the port for export. The Felicitas bauxite project has a most promising resource that isconsidered to be of a suitable grade for successful refining, as it hascharacteristics similar to other bauxite deposits located in the DarlingRange. The resource shows it has excellent reactive silica to availablealumina ratios which will make it an ideal material for refining alumina at low temperatures.
